Neagley Ending Explained: The Killer, the Reacher Cameo and the Last Scene

How Neagley season 1 ends: who dies at Echo Canyon, what happens to Rawlings, the Reacher funeral handshake, the final scene and the season 2 setup.

The short answer

Echo Canyon is destroyed, the people who ran the Tranqlara trials are dead or exposed, and Neagley ends the season in therapy. Most coverage says Lawrence Cole dies when the rigged silo goes up, though TV Insider says he is left behind “seemingly” to die and Entertainment Weekly says he is “apparently” killed. Arvid Rawlings, the billionaire who paid for the drug, is injected with Tranqlara by Neagley and walks into the path of a truck. Her father Calvin dies before she can reach him. She buys York Investigations and builds a team around Renee and Keno. Reported

The raid on Echo Canyon

Rawlings sends armed men to the farm to wipe out the Tranqlara research and any witnesses. The plan is to stage the deaths as a mass suicide led by Cole. Confirmed

Recaps say Rawlings’ men get in by telling Cole that an FBI raid is coming and ordering everyone down into the silo. Neagley, Hudson Riley and Renee find the compound empty and a fake suicide note in Cole’s home. Neagley recognises the pattern of an earlier cover-up in Hamilton. Reported

The fight takes place in and around the silo, which the mercenaries have rigged with bombs. According to recaps, Neagley is hit in her vest and falls down the elevator shaft, then keeps a radio channel open to block the bombs’ remote trigger. Keno gets out of his cell, and Hudson kills several of the mercenaries. Reported

The team and the surviving cult members escape with the evidence before the silo explodes. Keno survives. Confirmed

Who is exposed and who dies

The conspiracy has three layers. Pierce Woodrow developed Tranqlara, Rawlings secretly financed him, and the drug was tested on vulnerable residents of Cole’s Echo Canyon Farm. Tommy Crane found out and was killed before he could expose it. Confirmed

Recaps and the Jack Reacher Wiki go further. They say Cole ordered the killing and that a hired man named Davos drugged Tommy with Tranqlara. Tier 2 outlets name no single killer, so we treat it as a chain of people rather than one culprit. Our article on who killed Tommy Crane sets out the evidence. Reported

Cole is left behind in the rigged silo with a broken leg. NME and Primetimer say he dies in the blast. TV Insider and Entertainment Weekly hedge. Wikipedia and several recaps say Neagley sets off the bombs herself. The written coverage does not settle how the scene is shown. Reported

Neagley does not hand Rawlings to the police. She injects him with Tranqlara, and he strips and walks into traffic, where a truck hits him. Confirmed

His death echoes Tommy’s, who also stripped and walked in front of a train. We read that as deliberate. Interpretation

Woodrow does not reach the finale. Recaps say Rawlings shoots him in episode 7 and makes Cole his new partner. They also say Cole had Judith Gray stoned to death in episode 6. Deputy Chief Plemel is arrested for corruption, and Hudson is cleared over the death of the crooked cop Murphy. Reported

Why Neagley cannot be touched

Neagley long believed that Elliot Percy had abused her. In the finale she realises he abused Tommy. Her father Calvin, a policeman, killed Percy after learning what he had done, and five-year-old Frances saw it in the boiler room of their apartment building. Confirmed

What damaged her was both the killing and what came after: her father grabbed and shook her and swore that no one would ever touch her again. Confirmed

The memory returns after Rawlings’ men dose her with Tranqlara. Collider says her cereal milk is spiked in episode 4, and the memory comes back after that. Confirmed

Calvin has already died by the time she reaches the hospital, so she never gets to confront him. He leaves a letter that apologises and urges her not to carry his mistakes. Confirmed

In Lee Child’s novels the phobia is never explained, so the series origin is new. Confirmed The showrunner says the revelation does not fix it. It is deep-seated trauma that will keep affecting her relationships. Confirmed

The Reacher cameo

Alan Ritchson’s Jack Reacher appears in two episodes, the first and the last, and he is credited as a guest star. Confirmed

In the finale Reacher comes to Calvin’s funeral without being asked. Neagley offers him her hand, her first handshake with him and a deliberate step on her phobia. TV Insider gives the exchange as Reacher saying it is nice to meet her and Neagley answering that he has soft hands. Reported

Showrunner Nicholas Wootton says the soft-hands line came up very early and that the handshake was planned early as the final moment with Reacher. He says the team chose a handshake rather than a kiss with Hudson, to show incremental progress with someone she has known for years and feels safe with. Sten says Reacher is the person who was always there for her. Confirmed

The final scene

Neagley buys York Investigations from the widow of her late boss Gerry York, using money Reacher gave her at the end of the second season of Reacher. Renee becomes lead investigator and Keno her intern. Confirmed

Hudson tells Neagley he cares and asks if he can kiss her. She says she is not ready. Confirmed

A recap says he then suggests breakfast at the diner. Reported

The season closes on Neagley going to therapy. Sten says healing is “not linear” and that Neagley will regress in season 2. In another interview she says Neagley is “certainly not healed” and “not a different person”. Confirmed

What it sets up for season 2

Renee’s brother Patrick is missing. In the finale Keno agrees to help find him, and Wootton says season 2 goes into that story with a big twist. He also says the season 2 story is already written, that Hudson’s family ties to crime have more to give, and that the core team is Neagley, Hudson, Renee and Keno. Confirmed

Prime Video announced the renewal of Neagley on 1 October 2026 after Amazon reported 40 million viewers in the first 13 days. As of October 2026 there is no premiere date and no announced cast. Confirmed

Frequently asked questions

How does Neagley season 1 end?

Neagley and her team destroy Echo Canyon. Cole is left in the rigged silo and, by most accounts, dies in the blast. Rawlings dies after Neagley injects him with Tranqlara. Her father dies before she reaches him. She buys York Investigations and the last scene shows her going to therapy.

Who dies in the Neagley finale?

Arvid Rawlings, Lawrence Cole (most coverage says he dies; two outlets hedge) and Neagley's father Calvin. According to recaps, Rawlings killed Pierce Woodrow in episode 7, and Cole had Judith Gray stoned to death in episode 6.

What is the Reacher cameo in Neagley?

Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher appears in the first and last episodes. In the finale he turns up at Calvin's funeral and Neagley shakes his hand, the first time she has done so.

Why can Neagley not be touched, and does the finale cure it?

At five she saw her father kill Elliot Percy, who had abused Tommy, and her father then grabbed her and promised no one would touch her again. The handshake is a step, not a cure, according to the showrunner and the star.

Is there a post-credits scene in Neagley?

We found no report of one. The last scene of the finale shows Neagley going to therapy.
