The short answer
Season 1 closes the main case: Rawlings is dead, Woodrow is dead according to recaps, and Cole is left in the silo when it blows. It leaves open Renee’s missing brother, the earlier Hamilton scheme, what became of the Tranqlara evidence, and how Neagley and her team move on. This article was written in October 2026 and is not updated, so every status below is true as of October 2026 only. Reported
Questions the finale leaves open
- Where is Renee’s brother Patrick? In the finale Renee shows Keno a photo of her missing brother, and Keno promises to help find him. No source shows Patrick being found in season 1, and Collider lists continuing the search as one of the open mysteries, while TV Insider’s recap words it as Keno helping Renee find him. Wikipedia’s episode summary says Renee admits she pushed Keno to investigate partly to see whether her missing brother was a member. Reported
- What was Hamilton? Characters keep referring to an earlier scheme. In episode 6 Rawlings tells Woodrow he will not have another Hamilton. Recaps link it to Pinnacle Therapeutics, a clinic that supplied ADHD medication to at-risk children, some of whom later died, and to a journalist who died in a house fire. Neagley reads the fake suicide note at Echo Canyon as Rawlings repeating the trick. A Reel Mockery recap says Pinnacle’s ownership ran through an LLC, a shell company and a nonprofit, and no source says the show closes the story. Outlets disagree on the death toll and the place, so we state neither. Reported
- What happens to Tranqlara itself? Outlets disagree. One says every sample was destroyed except a syringe Neagley kept. Primetimer says the team secured samples, NME says Neagley retrieved the research, and TV Insider and EW say only that the team escaped with evidence. A recap says Neagley gave the FBI a pile of evidence that morning. No source follows the case to charges. Reported
- Who else knew? In episode 5 Invection’s board threatens to stop funding the drug and start an audit, and Woodrow claims the FDA is on board. Neither thread is followed up in any source we found. In episode 7 Rawlings offers Cole a new drug to partner on, but Rawlings and Woodrow die before it goes anywhere. Reported
- Which loose ends stay loose? The Review Geek says the show gives little closure on Murphy’s death and never resolves the subplot of Gerry York’s wife, who is given false hope, with no follow-up. That Love Podcast says the finale closes the central operation but does not show that every person harmed has been found. Reported
- Where does Hudson stand? He tells Neagley he cares and asks to kiss her, and she says she is not ready. TV Insider lists him as an employee of the new firm, while other outlets call him an ally. His job as a police officer is not stated as ended. Reported
- Can Reacher come back? Alan Ritchson appears in the first and last episodes. At the funeral Neagley shakes Reacher’s hand for the first time. Wootton says it was planned very early as the final moment with Reacher. Whether Ritchson returns is unconfirmed as of October 2026. Reported

What the makers say about season 2
Nicholas Wootton spoke before the renewal. He said they would “totally” go into the Renee-and-brother story in season 2, that it holds “a big twist”, and that Keno is tied into it. He also said there is more to mine in Hudson’s family ties to crime. Confirmed
On progress, Wootton said the brother story is “all written”. Collider’s headline says the season 2 storylines are fully written. In a Screen Rant interview around 28 September, he said the writing was “finished” and “we have it broken”, meaning the story is broken out, and that the team was awaiting the word. He did not say episodes are scripted or filmed. Reported
MovieWeb read this as the writers’ room being complete. Reported
Wootton also said that right now they like the main team at four, Neagley, Hudson, Renee and Keno, and that new people would come in around them. He called the finale kiss a complication, since Keno is in love and Renee is not necessarily. He said the phobia is not resolved and that season 2 would show it affecting closer relationships. Confirmed
Greyston Holt says he wants to explore Hudson’s father and family more and does not know who the villain will be. He guessed a shoot roughly a year and a half after the season 1 wrap, which is his estimate, not a studio schedule. Adeline Rudolph says Renee still has a lot of unanswered questions. Maria Sten told a magazine, per People, that the question is “what now?”. Reported
What is officially confirmed as of October 2026
Prime Video announced the season 2 renewal on 1 October 2026, days after Reacher was renewed for season 6. Peter Friedlander of Amazon MGM Studios said the studio is excited to explore what is next for Neagley with Paramount Television Studios. Confirmed
Amazon says the debut season drew 40 million viewers worldwide across its first 13 days, ranks as its number four series debut, and drew more than half its audience outside the US. Confirmed
Variety notes Amazon does not define how it counts viewers, so the figure is not comparable with other platforms’ numbers. Reported
As of October 2026 there is no premiere date and no officially announced cast. Outlets expect Sten, Holt, Rudolph and Jones to return, but that is expectation. The studio announcement gave no plot details or episode count, though Wootton has said the season is written. Confirmed
The first Neagley novel, Zero Margin by Lee Child and Yasmin Angoe, is due in March 2027. No source links the novels to the season 2 story. See Neagley vs the books. Confirmed
Fan theories
Everything in this section is speculation. None of it is announced. Fan theory
- High On Films suggests season 2 could centre on Renee’s search for her brother, with Keno helping.
- Screen Rant, writing before the renewal, expected the whole team back, citing Neagley’s new firm, Hudson’s position and Renee and Keno’s wish to belong.
- Screen Rant also reads Neagley’s refusal to rebuff Hudson outright as hope that a romance could develop.
- Our own guess is that the Hamilton and Water Rats threads could return, because Hudson’s father Boone is still in prison and nobody traced Hamilton’s owners.
- We also think a new central villain is likelier than a follow-up to Rawlings, since Rawlings, Woodrow and Cole are all dead and Holt does not know the villain.

What we do not know
As of October 2026 nobody has announced a premiere date, production start, episode count, release model or plot. Nobody has said what Wootton’s twist is, who Patrick is, or whether he is linked to Echo Canyon or Tranqlara. Nobody has said whether Hamilton returns, what happens to the survivors, Invection or the evidence, or whether any post-credits scene points to season 2. We found no reaction from Wootton or Sten to the renewal itself. Interpretation
