The short answer
Lawrence Cole leads Echo Canyon Farm. Pierce Woodrow, the pharmaceutical executive, developed the drug, and the Swedish billionaire Arvid Rawlings secretly finances it. In the finale Cole is left behind in the silo and, by most accounts, dies when it explodes, Rawlings dies after Neagley injects him with Tranqlara, and Keno survives. Confirmed
The leaders and backers
- Lawrence Cole (Damon Herriman): the farm’s leader and owner. Variety calls him a self-styled prophet with a deadly secret. In the finale he is left behind in the silo and killed when it explodes. TV Insider and Entertainment Weekly hedge and say he is “seemingly” or “apparently” killed. Confirmed
- Judith Gray (Rebecca Liddiard): operations director at Echo Canyon and, in The Hollywood Reporter’s words, the leader’s right-hand woman. Neagley questions her at the farm in episode 1. Recaps say she tells Woodrow the formulation target is met and offers to replace Cole, and that Cole has her stoned to death in episode 6.
- Pierce Woodrow (Matthew Del Negro): chief executive of Invection Pharmaceuticals, who developed Tranqlara. Wikipedia says Rawlings kills him in episode 7 and makes Cole his new partner, and Reel Mockery has Rawlings shoot him in his office.
- Arvid Rawlings (Peter Outerbridge): Swedish billionaire and secret financier, whom Decider calls the big boss behind Tranqlara. In the finale he sends armed men to wipe out the research and stage a mass suicide blamed on Cole. Neagley injects him with Tranqlara, and he walks into traffic and is hit by a truck. Confirmed
Wikipedia and recaps give the detail on Judith, Woodrow and the episode 7 shift in power. Reported
Staff and enforcers
- Davos (Brian Hamman, per Wikipedia): an assassin who served in Afghanistan with Owen Vark. He tells Neagley and Hudson that Cole ordered Tommy’s death in episode 3. Wikipedia says crooked cop Murphy kills him in episode 3, claiming he went for his gun, and Reel Mockery says he had been sedated.
- Ford (Frank Cox-O’Connell, per Reel Mockery): Neagley arrests him in episode 2 and he praises Cole. A lawyer shuts down the questioning and hands him a torch to burn off his Echo Canyon tattoo. No source gives his later fate.
- Mason (John Bregar): processes newcomers and, with Connor, tortures Keno. Recaps say Keno kills him in the finale by electrocution.
- Connor (Nicholas Anderson Tull, per Bingebase): works with Mason. No source says what happens to him.
- Cory Balega (Ari Cohen): head of Rawlings’s mercenaries. Reel Mockery says Hudson Riley takes him out in the silo.
- Annika (Emilie Ullerup) and Erik (Anders Yates): Rawlings’s Swedish hitters. Recaps say a Swedish pair dose Neagley’s milk and kill her boss Gerry York, and that Renee kills them in an alley in episode 7. Matching the cast names to that pair is our inference.
The actors and fates above come from Wikipedia, Reel Mockery and Bingebase, so recaps are the only support. Reported
Residents and test subjects
Recaps say newcomers start as probationers and can graduate to neophyte by a vote, while acolytes watch over them. Reviews and recaps describe recruits as lonely, impressionable or traumatised people who can vanish without alarm. A few are chosen for the secret human-testing stage, which one explainer calls The Project. Reported
- Tommy Crane (Jhaleil Swaby): dies in episode 1, killed before he could expose what was happening. Confirmed
- Wikipedia and a fan wiki say he joined the farm after childhood abuse by Elliot Percy, seeking healing. Reported
- Lulu (Zoe Belkin, per Reel Mockery and Bingebase): a young woman chosen for the secret project. Recaps say Tommy sees her severed finger and confronts Cole, and that Cole says she died of an overdose. Tommy does not believe him.
- Mandy (Jessica Clement): an Echo Canyon member who befriends Keno. Recaps say she tells him about the Project and later betrays him to Cole. Four recaps say she dies in the finale, and Reel Mockery and The Review Geek mention a bullet wound, but Wikipedia, NME, TV Insider and Decider do not mention it.
- Owen Vark (Jonathan Maxwell Silver, named in one recap only): a retired veteran on whom Cole and Woodrow tested Tranqlara a year earlier. The test failed. Reel Mockery has him refer to a “patient 42” and Wikipedia says 41 patients came before him, which suggests he was number 42. He is last seen alive in a veterans’ psychiatric ward in episode 4.
- Doyle (Matthew Finlan): a patient and acolyte-level resident. Keno sees a drugged man injure himself in episode 3, and in episode 6 Keno says he saw what they did to Doyle, and the recap does not say what that was.
- Aaron (Taylor Bernier) and Celeste (Kenzie Heaven Grist): a married couple at the farm. Recaps say Cole targets Celeste. No source says whether they survive.
- Ozzy: a caged fellow test subject whose head-banging cracks the glass and frees Keno in the finale.
Everything here except Tommy rests on Wikipedia and recaps. Reported
Outsiders linked to the farm
- Elliot Percy (Zach Parsons, per Bingebase): the local predator who abused Tommy. Neagley’s father Calvin killed him after learning what he had done. Confirmed The actor credit rests on Bingebase and Cast Rumors only. Reported
- Deputy Chief Plemel (James Downing) and Murphy (Mal Dassin): corrupt police who protect the operation. Recaps say a secret account of Plemel’s put $800,000 into pharmaceutical shares, Wikipedia says Hudson kills Murphy after a fight in episode 7, while TV Insider says Murphy and Plemel “take the fall”, and Plemel is arrested.
- Charlie Hall: the camera repairman near where Tommy died, who used a fake name. Recaps say he is found dead in a staged suicide before Neagley can question him.
- Gerry York: Neagley’s boss, killed by Rawlings’s assassins after he turns up at her apartment.
- Mr. and Mrs. Crane: Tommy’s parents, who say Echo Canyon took over his life.
All of this except Percy’s killer comes from Wikipedia and recaps. Reported
Who survives
Keno, the undercover infiltrator played by Jasper Jones, survives and ends the season as Neagley’s intern. Entertainment Weekly says the cultists were unknowingly used as test subjects, and NME and TV Insider say the finale rescues the surviving cult members along with Keno. Confirmed
Some residents die in the finale. Outlets differ on how many, so we give no figure. Reported
Rawlings does not survive, Cole is left behind and, by most accounts, dies, and Woodrow is dead before the finale according to recaps. Wikipedia says Echo Canyon’s crimes are exposed. TV Insider and Decider say Neagley takes over York Investigations with Renee, Hudson and Keno. No source names the surviving residents or says what happens to them in court. For the ending as a whole, see our ending explained. Reported
